Greg Bovino, a prominent figure in the immigration policies of the Trump administration, has been relieved of his duties, according to reports.

The high-ranking official in the Border Patrol has supposedly been reassigned to California, reverting to his previous position. Bovino played a central role in the administration’s assertive immigration enforcement actions in various cities, including Minneapolis.

Following the controversial shooting incident involving Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, some of Bovino’s team members are also said to be leaving the city amidst public outcry. This departure signals a notable shift in the federal law enforcement approach, leading to Tom Homan, the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement leader, taking charge in Minneapolis and engaging with local authorities.

In response to the events surrounding Alex Pretti’s death during an immigration operation, the Minnesota Department of Corrections has established a dedicated website to counter alleged misinformation from the Department of Homeland Security. The website aims to provide accurate information on the state’s handling of custody and cooperation with federal entities, countering claims made by DHS after the incident.

The online platform includes examples demonstrating instances where Minnesota complied with federal requests to detain individuals facing deportation, contradicting assertions of their release by Trump administration officials. It also showcases videos of lawful custody transfers from state to federal authorities, refuting claims of non-cooperation by local agencies.

Additionally, the Department of Corrections issued statements to clarify the criminal backgrounds of individuals mentioned by federal agencies, including the central figure in the operation near Pretti’s death. The department stated that the individual had not been in their custody and only had minor traffic-related offenses on record, disputing claims of a significant criminal history by Border Patrol leaders.

Legal expert Jimmy Gurulé commented on the conflict between state and federal authorities, highlighting the uncommon public nature of the disagreements in Minnesota. Gurulé observed that typically such disputes are resolved privately rather than through public exchanges. He questioned the deteriorated trust between state and local law enforcement and federal agencies, leading to a breakdown in collaboration and potential legal actions.
