The Winter Olympics village at Milano Cortina reportedly faced a shortage of condoms despite distributing 10,000 freebies to athletes. Known for its steamy atmosphere and numerous stories of amorous encounters, the accommodation has seen a high demand for contraceptives. In contrast to the Paris Summer Games in 2024, where 200,000 condoms were provided, only a small portion of that, 10,000, were given out in Italy this year.

With significantly fewer athletes in Milan compared to Paris, the limited supply of condoms quickly ran out. An anonymous athlete revealed to La Stampa that the initial stock was depleted in just three days, leaving uncertainty about when more supplies would arrive.

To manage the situation, organizers introduced ‘anti-sex’ beds as a preventive measure to discourage excessive off-camera activities. However, the unconventional cardboard design has not been effective in curbing the reported behavior.

This isn’t the first instance of condom shortages at the Olympics, as seen in Sydney 2000 when an additional 20,000 were needed after the initial 70,000 were used up. Considering the potential risks of an STI outbreak, athletes were reminded upon arrival in Milan to prioritize health and prevention.

A former Olympic gold medallist highlighted the village’s reputation for X-rated activities in a candid interview, emphasizing that such interactions are a known aspect of the Games. The distribution of condoms is seen as a practical response to the realities of athlete life during the Olympics.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, taking place from February 6-22, offers fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Subscribers to the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment package can access continuous Olympic coverage on TNT Sports 2 throughout the event.
