Officers in a northern California county made a startling discovery while investigating an alleged illegal marijuana farm. Shasta County authorities stumbled upon a significant collection of dangerous firearms and weapons in addition to the suspected drug operation.

The search revealed a hidden 100-foot tunnel and an underground bunker housing various unlawfully owned weapons, including a sawn-off shotgun, on the premises of a Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporter. The bunker, equipped with essential amenities for marijuana cultivation, also featured a gym, armchair, television, and a Bennington flag associated with the January 6 riot.

Described as a severe threat to public safety, the massive cache came to light when California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers executed a search warrant at the residence of 40-year-old Michael Jay Kamfolt in Anderson. The operation uncovered a disturbing combination of illicit firearms, ammunition, and a sophisticated underground hideout.

CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the discovery transcended a mere illegal grow operation. The alarming cache of weapons and the hidden bunker underscored the imminent danger posed to public safety.

The seized weapons included three AR-15-style assault rifles, a sawn-off shotgun, and over 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Kamfolt, a well-known conservative activist and avid supporter of former President Donald Trump, faced arrest on January 20 on various misdemeanor and felony weapons-related charges.

Despite his close ties with local political figures, Kamfolt’s arrest sent shockwaves through the community. County supervisor Kevin Crye, a pro-Trump election denier, expressed his dismay over the situation in a Facebook video, emphasizing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

The investigation was prompted by a tip-off received by CHP in December regarding the illicit activities on Kamfolt’s property. Following extensive surveillance and preparations, law enforcement officials executed the search operation, resulting in the confiscation of 13 firearms, four body armor vests, and 30 high-capacity magazines, including two reported stolen weapons.

Kamfolt, who is no longer in custody, faces charges related to illegal firearm conversions, possession of stolen weapons, and possession of armor-penetrating ammunition. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illicit activities and safeguard public safety in the region.
