A veteran weather forecaster, Roland Steadham, aged 67, tragically lost his life when his plane collided with a power line and crashed into a frozen river. The incident occurred shortly after take-off from Emmett Airport in Idaho, with the aircraft losing contact around 10:55am local time, as per flight data.

The wreckage of the plane was discovered in the nearby Payette River, leading authorities to suspect that the aircraft may have struck an object. The Gem County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that both male occupants onboard were fatally injured in the crash, with emergency services responding to the scene promptly.

Despite efforts by rescue teams navigating freezing temperatures to reach the crash site, the identity of the second individual onboard remains undisclosed. Details regarding the aircraft model, registered under Northwest Registered Agent LLC, and the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be revealed.

Steadham, a well-regarded pilot, was known for operating a small aircraft out of Emmett, as reported by CBS2. With over 3,000 flight hours logged, he had recently visited students at an aviation class in Emmett, sharing his passion for flying and encouraging them to pursue aviation.

The crash resulted in a local power outage, with Idaho Power collaborating with authorities to restore services once the area is secure. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

This incident follows another tragic plane crash at Bangor International Airport in Maine, where a private jet crashed during takeoff, resulting in the death of all passengers, including a corporate pilot and an event planner associated with a Texas law firm. Among the victims was Shawna Collins, a longtime employee of Lakewood Church in Houston, known for her event organizing skills and vibrant personality.
