Barry Hearn criticized the lack of tact in Conor Benn’s departure from Matchroom to Zuffa Boxing without even engaging with Eddie Hearn. The 29-year-old officially announced the split and will now be under the management of the Saudi-backed promoter led by UFC president Dana White.

Benn chose to part ways with his long-time promoters, who supported him through thick and thin, including a past drug test failure. Despite Eddie Hearn’s efforts to discuss their partnership, Benn showed no interest in communicating, which disappointed Hearn Sr.

Expressing his disappointment, Barry Hearn mentioned feeling let down by Benn’s actions, especially after the team’s unwavering support. Benn’s move to Zuffa makes him the latest addition alongside cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia, signaling a shift away from Eddie Hearn’s guidance.

Regarding the situation, Barry Hearn revealed that Conor Benn opted for legal discussions when Eddie proposed a meeting, leading to frustration given their extensive history together. Benn, aiming for the WBC welterweight title, defended his decision, citing the irresistible financial offer he received.

Despite the turn of events, Hearn Sr emphasized that he would have supported Benn had the approach been different, highlighting the importance of mutual standards and respect in their professional relationship.
