Montreal’s long-rumored soccer revelation has now been officially confirmed: Chilean sensation Alexis Sánchez is set to join CF Montreal. The team announced on Tuesday that Sánchez will be joining as a designated player, bringing a wealth of skill and experience to bolster the team’s struggling roster. The news was initially disclosed by various media outlets, including El Deportivo and The Athletic.

In a statement released by CF Montreal’s senior director of recruitment and sporting methodology, Luca Saputo, the arrival of Alexis Sánchez is hailed as a significant advancement in the team’s sporting vision. Sánchez is praised for his exceptional technical prowess and extensive experience in top-tier global football. His character, leadership qualities, and competitive spirit are said to align perfectly with the club’s ethos and aspirations.

At 37 years old, Sánchez holds the record for the most goals scored in the history of Chile’s national team, known as La Roja, with an impressive tally of 51 international goals.

Prior to the official confirmation, CF Montreal teased a major signing through a video posted online, hinting at the imminent arrival of a prominent player. The video featured Saputo mentioning, “He wants Alexis, number 10,” in reference to Sánchez’s favored jersey number. The speculation surrounding Sánchez’s move, now validated, has generated excitement among his supporters.

Sánchez will join forces with fellow Chilean Thomas Gillier, who currently serves as a goalkeeper for the club. In the previous 2025-26 season, Sánchez played for Sevilla FC, a professional football club based in Andalusia, Spain, where he netted four goals in 28 appearances.

Sánchez’s transfer follows a trend of seasoned star players making their way to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the twilight of their careers. This summer transfer window alone has seen notable signings such as Polish striker Robert Lewandowski with the Chicago Fire, French star Antoine Griezmann joining Orlando City, and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro linking up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
