Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts flocked to Great Park in Irvine, California, during the weekend to enjoy live performances by their favorite artists. The debut charity festival, Daisy Chain Fields, was organized by singer Olivia Rodrigo, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1990s Lilith Fair, known for its all-female lineup. The festival featured a diverse lineup of both emerging and established artists, including pop artist Chappell Roan, rapper Doechii, and punk rock bands like Bikini Kill and Garbage.
Before the festival kicked off, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s ten non-profit partners. This amount was later matched by Melinda French Gates, doubling the total raised to $20 million. The funds raised supported organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the National Institute for Reproductive Health, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.
Rodrigo had announced the festival back in June, promising that all net proceeds would go towards charities dedicated to advancing women’s causes. The event featured special performances, including Rodrigo singing “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette performing “Ironic” with Rodrigo, incorporating a gender-inclusive lyric change.
The festival also included appearances by Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan, who joined Rodrigo on stage for several performances. Rodrigo explained that the festival’s name, “Daisy Chain,” symbolized unity and strength in coming together for a common purpose.
