A heart-wrenching cry escaped a mother’s lips as she entered her daughter’s room and discovered the lifeless body of the 20-year-old with a fractured neck. Júlia de Paula Barbosa was found deceased in the early hours of October 5, exhibiting bruises and multiple fractures. Her mother, Jozi Maria de Paula, was devastated to see the extent of her daughter’s injuries, suspected to be the result of physical assault and strangulation. Jozi tearfully recounted finding Júlia in bed, clad in a black jacket, covered in bruises with a broken hand and foot.
Júlia’s boyfriend has been taken into custody following the tragic incident. Jozi expressed certainty that he was involved, mentioning that he had left with Júlia’s key. The incident took place in the family residence in Cariacica, located northeast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The boyfriend, Aleff Wingler, 25, was apprehended in Serra, north of Vitoria, as he attempted to board a bus to São Mateus on the same day. Prior to the event, the couple had attended a party in Viana and were driven home by Júlia’s father. Local reports indicated that the pair had been in a relationship for two years.
At the time of her untimely death, Júlia was pursuing studies in architecture and leaves behind a sister. Her cousin, Jessica, fondly remembered her bright future aspirations at only 20 years old. Maria Eduarda, a close friend, expressed everlasting love for Júlia. Authorities are handling the case as femicide, with investigations currently ongoing.
