Murderer Matthew Armstrong and violent offender Daniel Washbourne are currently fugitives after escaping from prison on New Year’s Day. Avon and Somerset Police are in pursuit of the duo following the apprehension of a third escaped inmate. Armstrong and Washbourne absconded from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire sometime between 5pm and 8pm on January 1.

Authorities urge the public to immediately contact 999 upon sighting the escapees, emphasizing that they are not local residents and have connections across different regions. The prison reported the escape on Thursday evening, leading law enforcement to commence investigations promptly at approximately 9:45pm. CCTV footage capturing the duo’s attire on New Year’s Day has been secured and released to aid in the ongoing search efforts.

Armstrong, a white male standing around 5ft 9ins tall with ginger hair and forehead scars, was last observed donning a burgundy/orange coat, grey cap, grey tracksuit bottoms with blue detailing, and black boots. He is associated with Warwickshire and was convicted in the late 2000s for a fatal robbery incident in the same region.

Washbourne, described as a white male approximately 5ft 6ins tall with brown hair and a clean-shaven appearance, was last seen wearing a cream fleece, blue tracksuit bottoms, a blue hat, and black trainers. He has ties to Herefordshire and a criminal record involving person offenses and false imprisonment.

The public is warned not to approach Armstrong and Washbourne. In case of any sightings, individuals are instructed to call 999 immediately and reference number 5226000700. Alternatively, those with relevant information can contact 101 to aid the investigation efforts.
