During the costly holiday season, many individuals seek ways to supplement their income post-Christmas.

Roy Foulkes, a retired police officer, has accumulated over £5,500 in cash and vouchers by identifying and reporting vacant and dilapidated properties.

Living in West Hallam, Derbyshire, the 67-year-old discovered YouSpotProperty in 2024 and has been utilizing the platform to generate extra income. YouSpotProperty compensates individuals for pinpointing and disclosing long-term unoccupied houses.

Initially, the company offers a £20 Amazon or M&S voucher for correctly identifying an empty residence. If YouSpotProperty proceeds to purchase, renovate, and sell the property, the spotter receives 1% of the purchase price, capped at £10,000.

Roy has earned £4,750 in 1% rewards after the company acquired and refurbished two properties he reported, alongside 39 £20 vouchers amounting to £780.

For the initial house, Roy received £2,350, and more recently, £1,620 for the second property. The funds have been used for household items, vacations, and activities with his grandchildren.

Roy identified the first property eligible for the 1% fee while strolling through his former patrol area. Despite previously reporting it to the local council without results, YouSpotProperty took action.

Expressing his experience, Roy mentioned, “I noticed a neglected house during a walk. After futile attempts with the council, I found YouSpotProperty online, which offered a simple solution of reporting and leaving the rest to them.”

The second property caught his attention near a former council residence in Derby.

Detailing his discovery, Roy explained, “While out with our grandson, I noticed a house obscured by trees. Further investigation revealed a neglected property with a refrigerator in the front garden, prompting me to report it.”

Following the report, Roy was informed that he had earned 1% of the purchase price, totaling £1,620.
