A young woman sustained severe injuries after a sex toy she had inside her body got pulled through during an MRI scan. The 22-year-old had inserted a “butt plug” before the procedure, mistakenly thinking it was made entirely of silicon. However, the toy contained metal at its core, which reacted dangerously with the MRI machine, causing it to move from her rectum and into her body. This incident raised concerns about wearing metal objects during such scans.

A social media user shared an image of the incident online, cautioning against using butt plugs during MRI appointments. The post claimed the sex toy had been pulled through the patient’s body into their chest cavity, resulting in major injuries but survival. MRI scanners utilize powerful magnets to create detailed internal images for diagnostic purposes. Patients are usually checked for any metallic objects before the scan.

The woman failed to inform the US hospital staff about the sex toy inside her, likely because she believed it was metal-free. A report by the US Department of Health and Human Services detailed the incident, highlighting the patient’s distress post-MRI and subsequent hospitalization for evaluation.

This incident is one of several serious MRI accidents in recent years. In a separate case, a man ended up with a bullet in his abdomen due to the machine’s magnets causing his gun to discharge during a scan. Another tragic incident involved a man who was fatally injured when his necklace pulled him into the MRI machine.

These incidents underscore the importance of following safety protocols during MRI scans, including removing all jewelry and metal objects to prevent accidents.
