A stunning deserted island in search of two adventurous individuals to run a coffee shop during the spring and summer seasons has a unique opportunity. The picturesque Great Blasket Island, located off the coast of Dunquin near Dingle in Ireland, is looking for a duo to oversee the café and the accommodations on the island.

The appointed caretakers will manage three holiday cottages, including tasks like cleaning, painting, welcoming guests, and serving tea and coffee while overseeing the daily operations. Great Blasket Island, a wildlife sanctuary with no permanent residents, offers a remote lifestyle that will keep the caretakers busy.

The job description specifies that the caretakers will be responsible for the coffee shop and holiday cottages on the island. It requires individuals who are hardworking, reliable, and have excellent people skills. The role demands dedication as the season can be very busy, with the caretakers expected to be on their feet for most of the day.

Successful applicants are expected to arrive on the island by the final week of March, with the season running from April 1 to mid-October, depending on weather conditions. Days off are dependent on the weather, with prolonged bad weather affecting sailings. The position is described as intense, with limited resources available on the island.

Despite the challenges, caretakers will receive wages, food, and accommodation, although alcohol and toiletries are not provided daily. Accommodations will be above the café, with access to kitchen facilities. The job may involve general maintenance tasks during poor weather or days off.

Great Blasket Island, designated as a ‘Special Area of Conservation’, spans over 1,100 acres and has been uninhabited since 1953. The island’s wildlife, including dolphins, basking sharks, grey seals, and whales, attracts visitors. Birdwatchers can spot gannets, puffins, Arctic terns, guillemots, and cormorants.

Interested candidates can apply for the position through the website provided.
