Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses. Wakefield Council is distributing these vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund, which differs among councils in terms of aid provided, ranging from energy support to supermarket vouchers and cash grants.

Residents in Wakefield Council’s jurisdiction who are on low incomes and receive council tax assistance are eligible for food vouchers. Pensioners benefiting from Council Tax Support received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other households.

Families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting from December 15. Meanwhile, households on Council Tax Support will be granted a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12 without needing to apply, as the vouchers will be automatically dispatched within 14 days of the specified dates. The council is advising residents to be cautious of potential scammers.

For non-Wakefield residents, exploring the support available through their local council’s Household Support Fund is recommended. An example is Blackpool Council providing £200 in energy aid to qualifying households of one or two individuals, with larger households receiving £300. Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and provide recent bank statements for all household members, with no requirement to be on Universal Credit or other benefits.

Payments are sent directly to energy providers and reflected as credits on bills or meters. Blackpool Council’s website facilitates applications for this support. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is also issuing £120 worth of vouchers to eligible residents, with two sets of £60 vouchers distributed to working-age households and pensioner households receiving Council Tax Reduction. Additionally, one-off £120 payments are available for low-income residents paying energy bills without Council Tax Reduction support.
