Venezuela’s opposition leader recently stirred controversy by suggesting she would offer her Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, sparking accusations of betrayal against the US President.

María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her relentless opposition to the Maduro regime in Venezuela. Despite being hailed as a potential leader for the country, her acceptance of the prestigious award reportedly soured relations with Trump, who felt he deserved the recognition for his efforts in resolving conflicts.

Insiders in Washington revealed that Trump expected Machado to hand over the peace prize to him, considering it a snub that she chose to retain it. This decision was deemed as a grave misstep by some, with claims that rejecting the award in Trump’s favor could have propelled Machado to the presidency of Venezuela.

Addressing the situation, Machado expressed her admiration for Trump’s achievements and indicated a willingness to personally present him with the Nobel Peace Prize. She dedicated her award to Trump, emphasizing his perceived deservingness of the honor in light of recent events in Venezuela.

As Maduro’s grip on power weakens, the political landscape in Venezuela is shifting, with Maduro’s vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, assuming the interim presidency. Rodriguez extended an olive branch to Trump, expressing a desire for constructive cooperation and cordial relations. However, Trump issued a warning, suggesting potential consequences if Rodriguez fails to align with US interests.

The unfolding dynamics between Venezuela, its leadership, and the United States underscore the complexities of international relations and power struggles in the region.
