Tiger Woods has acknowledged that he will be taking a break from golf following a recent back surgery in October. This procedure marked the seventh back surgery for the American golfer, who also underwent two other major surgeries in the past two years, including procedures on his Achilles and ankle.
Despite winning the Masters in 2019 after an 11-year gap without a major title, Woods has been struggling with injuries that have limited his competitiveness in recent years. He recently hosted his annual Hero World Challenge golf tournament in the Bahamas but recognizes that he has a long road to recovery before returning to the game.
While joking about playing numerous events, Woods emphasized the need to focus on his rehabilitation first before planning his future tournament schedule. He mentioned that he has just been cleared for chipping and putting after six weeks of recovery post-disc replacement surgery and is gradually progressing to more intense workouts to strengthen his back.
One of Woods’ main motivations for a comeback is the opportunity to break the PGA record for the most tournament wins, currently tied with golf legend Sam Snead at 82 victories. Notah Begay III, a close friend of Woods, highlighted that walking around the course could be a significant challenge for the golfer post-surgeries.
