Donald Trump has decided to cancel his meetings with Iranian officials today and has given a message of support to protesters, assuring them that assistance is on the way. Although the US president did not specify the nature of the help, this statement comes after his recent warning to strike Iran following reports from human rights monitors indicating more than 2,000 deaths in the Islamic Republic.

In a recent social media post, Trump, aged 79, encouraged demonstrators to continue protesting while cautioning “killers and abusers” that they will face severe consequences. He emphasized the need for Iranians to stand up against injustices, stating that he has halted all discussions with Iranian authorities until the violence against protesters ceases.

Trump has previously made strong statements threatening military action against Tehran if the US administration confirmed the use of lethal force by the Iranian government on anti-government protesters. Despite these warnings, there have been indications of potential diplomatic resolutions. The White House press secretary mentioned that public statements from the Iranian regime differ from the private messages received by the administration, hinting at a possible path for dialogue.

Additionally, Trump mentioned imposing a 25% tariff on nations engaging in business with Iran, although specific details regarding this action have not been disclosed. Countries like China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Brazil, and Russia are among those involved in economic activities with Iran.

The US Virtual Embassy for Iran has issued a warning to American citizens, advising them to leave the country due to escalating protests that may lead to violence. The situation in Iran includes increased security measures, disruptions in public transportation, and internet blockages. Travel restrictions have been imposed by airlines, with some suspending services until a specified date.

The embassy further urges US citizens to depart from Iran immediately, emphasizing the importance of having an exit plan that is not reliant on US government assistance. Residents are advised to secure a safe location, stock up on essential supplies, avoid demonstrations, maintain a low profile, stay informed of developments, and stay connected with family and friends. Monitoring local media for updates, being prepared to adjust plans, and enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security updates are also recommended.
