Reform UK is facing a potential second investigation regarding alleged overspending in Nigel Farage’s general election campaign. The Electoral Commission is currently examining any possible violations of the law following claims by Essex Police related to Mr. Farage’s bid for election in Clacton last year.

A whistleblower named Richard Everett, who collaborated with the Reform leader, has asserted that the party exceeded its authorized spending limit by £9,000. Despite this, he mentioned that Mr. Farage was unaware of these discrepancies. Labour has criticized Mr. Farage for not addressing the allegations, accusing him of disrespecting the British public.

In response, Labour chairwoman Anna Turley emphasized the importance of clarifying these accusations, insisting that Mr. Farage must address the situation promptly to reassure constituents and the public. The Commission’s chief executive, Vijay Rangarajan, stated in a letter to Ms. Turley that they are reviewing the matter to determine if there have been any breaches of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

Reform has refuted the allegations, labeling Mr. Everett as a disgruntled former councilor who was expelled from the party earlier in the year due to misconduct claims, which Mr. Everett denies. A party spokesperson reiterated that they have not violated electoral laws and are eager to vindicate themselves.

Recently, the Metropolitan Police referred the case to Essex Police for evaluation. The Conservatives have urged both the police and the Electoral Commission to investigate Mr. Everett’s assertions, stressing the importance of upholding election integrity and fairness.
