People who use cosmetics are being advised to conduct an essential examination promptly. Failing to carry out this simple check could lead to morning regrets.

Experts at Specsavers UK have issued a cautionary message that inadequate removal of makeup residue may result in the development of a stye, also known as a hordeolum. This small, painful lump on the inner or outer eyelid surface is caused by the bacterium staph (staphylococcus), commonly associated with eye styes.

While styes are a common occurrence for many individuals, certain factors can increase the risk of developing them. Styes, typically limited to one eye, can occasionally affect both eyes or manifest as multiple lumps on a single eyelid concurrently. Despite their appearance causing concern, styes are generally harmless.

To alleviate swelling and facilitate stye recovery, the NHS suggests following three essential steps. Pain relief can be managed with medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen, ensuring safety considerations, especially for children under 16 years old. Additionally, it is advisable to refrain from using contact lenses and eye makeup until the stye naturally bursts and heals. Attempting to burst a stye or remove an eyelash independently is strongly discouraged as it can lead to infection spread, as cautioned by the NHS.
