More than 100 vehicles were involved in a massive traffic incident due to heavy snowfall in the United States. The collision occurred in Michigan on January 19, causing chaos for drivers as the snow-covered roads led to a major pileup on Interstate 196, prompting its closure by Michigan State Police near Grand Rapids.
The aftermath of the incident saw over 30 trucks engaged in the cleanup operation, with several reported injuries but fortunately no fatalities. One driver, Pedro Mata Jr., described the challenging conditions where visibility was extremely limited as snow blew across the road, leading to the eventual collision.
As winter storms grip the nation, weather advisories have been issued across multiple states, including warnings for severe weather patterns affecting regions from northern Minnesota to New York. Forecasters anticipate subzero temperatures overnight in parts of Florida and Georgia, while reports from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office in Michigan detailed numerous accidents and vehicles sliding off the road.
Following the incident, stranded drivers were assisted by bus services to reach Hudsonville High School for support. The road closure is expected to last for several hours as multiple towing companies, including Grand Valley Towing, work together to clear the debris from the chain-reaction crash.
The manager of Grand Valley emphasized the urgency of the cleanup operation, aiming to swiftly remove the vehicles to reopen the road for traffic flow.
