A 12-year-old girl has tragically passed away following a misdiagnosis that led to her discharge from a paediatric A&E department. Azzurra Breda was taken to the hospital due to a fever and breathing problems, but doctors attributed her symptoms to a case of the flu and sent her home. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly, with her temperature reaching 40C after returning home.

The next day, her concerned parents took her back to the hospital, where she was immediately admitted to intensive care. Sadly, she succumbed to pneumonia on December 31st, just two days after her initial hospital visit.

An investigation is currently ongoing, with a post-mortem examination scheduled for January 12th. Azzurra was described as an active and healthy individual by her parents, who mentioned her involvement in various activities, including dancing, playing the piano, and excelling academically. She is survived by her parents and a younger sister.

Local Mayor Guido Carlin paid tribute to Azzurra, highlighting her positive impact in the community through her participation in church activities and her school engagements. Pneumonia, characterized by lung inflammation typically caused by an infection, can lead to severe illness in certain individuals, such as infants and the elderly.

Symptoms of pneumonia may include coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, fatigue, confusion, and loss of appetite. Anyone experiencing persistent coughing, coughing up blood, chest pain, or difficulty breathing should seek urgent medical attention. In severe cases, emergency services should be contacted if breathing difficulties or other alarming symptoms are present.

The importance of not self-driving to the hospital in emergency situations was emphasized by health authorities. For further information on pneumonia, individuals can visit the NHS website.
