A new £20 gadget introduced by Aldi aims to address a common issue faced by many during the winter season. This innovative solution is designed to help individuals enhance their energy levels on chilly days without resorting to medication or major lifestyle modifications.

Every year, an estimated two million people in the UK experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a mental health condition that tends to affect individuals during winter. To assist individuals in combatting feelings of fatigue and sluggishness in January, Aldi will offer a new portable Wellness Lamp priced at £19.99 as part of an upcoming middle aisle refresh.

Described as a “secret weapon” by the supermarket’s executives, this lamp utilizes technology to mimic morning sunshine, promoting natural energy boosts, improving sleep quality, and making early wake-ups more manageable. The lamp features various color temperature settings to cater to different preferences, offering warmer tones for relaxation and cooler tones for enhancing focus during tasks or remote work.

Claimed to infuse winter mornings with the warmth of summer sun, the lamp can be set to operate for up to an hour before automatically turning off. While similar products are available on the market, Aldi’s version provides a more affordable option. The Wellness Lamp will be accessible for purchase from January 25 in stores across the UK, available as long as stocks last.

According to the NHS, SAD is a form of depression that typically occurs in winter, affecting around two million individuals in the UK. While some individuals may experience depression symptoms in summer, it is less common. The exact cause of SAD is not fully understood but is believed to be related to decreased daylight exposure in winter.

Individuals experiencing symptoms of SAD are advised to consult a GP, who may inquire about mood changes over time and request completion of a symptom questionnaire.
