An eight-year-old child was tragically abducted and killed by a malevolent assailant who later dismembered the body and stored the victim’s feet in a freezer. Levi Aron, the perpetrator of this heinous act, passed away while incarcerated last month, marking the 15th anniversary of the horrific crime.

The young boy, Leiby Kletzky, was permitted to walk home unaccompanied for the first time. After becoming disoriented and seeking directions from Aron, he encountered a grave fate.

This chilling incident resurfaced following Aron’s demise, prompting a revisit to the appalling case. On July 11, 2011, Leiby was journeying home from a religious camp in Borough Park, Brooklyn, with plans to meet his mother halfway. Despite practicing the route the day before, he veered off course and sought help from Aron, who tragically led him astray.

Aron later confessed to diverting the child to a wedding in Rockland County before realizing a search operation was underway for the missing boy upon returning home. After watching television together and sleeping in separate rooms post-wedding, Aron maintained that he went to work the next day, only to return and prepare a tuna sandwich for the boy, who exhibited signs of being restrained around his wrists.

The Borough Park vicinity in Brooklyn houses a significant Orthodox Jewish community, mobilizing thousands of volunteers to comb the area for the lost child.

In a state of panic due to the search efforts, Aron drugged and suffocated Leiby, dismembering the body and discarding the remains. Shockingly, he preserved the victim’s severed feet in his freezer, a mere two miles from the boy’s residence.

Subsequently, on July 13, police arrived at Aron’s residence following surveillance footage scrutiny, leading to the discovery of incriminating evidence in his possession. The search uncovered bloodstained knives and a cutting board in the refrigerator, while the victim’s feet were found within the freezer.

Aron then disclosed the whereabouts of the boy’s head, torso, and legs, which were located in a suitcase within a Brooklyn dumpster.

Following his apprehension, Aron admitted to kidnapping and murdering the young boy, a member of the Hasidic Borough Park community, and received a sentence of 40 years to life behind bars.

Nearly 15 years into his incarceration, Aron passed away in a hospital on December 3 at the age of 49, having been transferred from the Wende Correctional Facility due to a reported “medical condition.”

Aron’s family, who endured numerous death threats after the crime and opted to remain in Brooklyn, requested an autopsy following his demise.

The victim’s father, Nachman Kletzky, denounced the murder of his son as “utterly reckless, malicious, and wanton,” declining to comment on Aron’s death.
