A tragic incident occurred when a man was fatally shot at his residence while attempting to sell an iPhone through the Facebook Marketplace. The victim, Michael Ryan Burke, a 42-year-old U.S. Marine veteran, made a distress call to 911 and sent farewell messages to his family before succumbing to his injuries.

The fatal shooting took place around 8:15 pm local time in Columbia, Missouri, prompting a response from the Columbia Police following reports of gunshots at Ridgemont Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered Michael with severe gunshot wounds inside his home. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he tragically passed away.

Before his death, Burke managed to contact emergency services and provide a description of the assailants involved in the incident. Additionally, he sent heartfelt messages to his mother and sister, expressing his love for them as he awaited medical assistance.

Subsequently, on January 20, authorities arrested three 18-year-olds and a male juvenile in connection with Burke’s murder. The suspects, identified as Kobe Aust, Joseph Crane, Alexis Baumann, and an unnamed juvenile, faced charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. They are currently held in custody without bond.

During the investigation, detectives examined Burke’s Facebook messages, revealing communications regarding the sale of his iPhone 15 Pro. The victim had shared his address with one of the suspects, who confirmed his arrival at the scene shortly before the tragic event unfolded.

Jerry Reifeiss, a close friend of Burke, described him as a selfless individual who prioritized others. Despite the harrowing situation, Burke’s final act of reaching out to his family showcased his caring nature and desire for justice.

The circumstances surrounding the case are still under investigation, with details emerging about the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
