A nine-year-old girl tragically passed away from a single stab wound to her chest in her residence, as revealed during an inquest opening session.
Aria Thorpe was declared deceased at her home in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, by paramedics at 6:58 pm on December 15. Coroner’s officer Andrew Eastwood informed Avon Coroners’ Court that the young girl succumbed to a stab wound to her chest at her residence.
Dr. Peter Harrowing, the area coroner for Avon, instructed that the comprehensive post-mortem report must be submitted by February 16. The individuals involved in the case were identified as Aria’s family and the alleged offender.
Dr. Harrowing stated that due to ongoing proceedings, the matter will not be scheduled for an inquest but will be reviewed on April 10. The review date was clarified not to be a court hearing, with any further coronial actions contingent on the developments in any police investigations or legal proceedings.
Previously, a 15-year-old boy, whose identity remains protected due to his age, had appeared before Bristol Crown Court facing charges related to Aria’s tragic death.
Judge Peter Blair KC, the Recorder of Bristol, has tentatively set a trial date for June 15 this year, with expectations that the trial will span a two-week period. Avon and Somerset Police were alerted by paramedics to the Mead Vale area of Weston-super-Mare at 6:09 pm on December 15.
In heartfelt tributes following the loss, Aria’s father, Tom Thorpe, reminisced about her vibrant and affectionate nature, recalling cherished family moments and her infectious joy.
Aria’s maternal family described her as a radiant and joyful soul, deeply missed and cherished beyond words. Despite the profound grief, the family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and the local community.
