Amazon’s popular Fire TV Sticks, known for easy access to premium entertainment like movies and sports without high subscription costs, are facing a crackdown on illegal streaming. The company will block unofficial apps providing access to pirated content, in collaboration with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment.

Although the full enforcement hasn’t begun, customers are already receiving warnings on their screens. Suspect apps trigger alerts cautioning users about unlicensed content and prompting them to uninstall. Users can still open the flagged apps, but Amazon’s detection signals a potential full ban in the future.

The total blocking implementation timeline is undisclosed, starting in Europe and later affecting devices in the UK. While the crackdown targets illegal streaming, it doesn’t address the root cause of high subscription fees driving such behavior. Media analyst Paolo Pescatore views the move as overdue and a positive step, but highlights the financial burden on consumers due to escalating costs pushed by broadcasters securing live sports rights.
