The UK is facing severe weather conditions with the Met Office issuing amber weather warnings due to heavy snowfall. These warnings are in place for parts of Scotland, including Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, and Highlands & Eilean Siar. The forecast predicts additional snow accumulation of 5 to 10cm across these regions, with higher elevations possibly receiving up to 15cm on top of the previous snowfall.
The Met Office anticipates a spell of heavy snow moving eastward across central and northern Scotland throughout Tuesday, transitioning to wintry showers by Tuesday night. The public is strongly advised against driving in snowy and icy conditions unless absolutely necessary, with a warning of potential power outages. Individuals are urged to prepare by having essential items such as torches and mobile phone power packs readily available.
While most areas are expected to see snow and ice clearing by late morning, central and northern Scotland will continue to be under a snow and ice warning for the entire day. An additional ice warning is in place for Northern Ireland until early Tuesday morning.
Looking ahead in the five-day forecast from Monday to Friday, the Met Office projects continued cold weather with sporadic snow showers across the country. Tuesday is forecasted to be another cold day with a mix of rain, sleet, and snow in the north, while the southern regions can expect drier conditions with sunny intervals before the arrival of precipitation later in the day.
