Security experts have reported a significant increase in scams and attacks targeting Android users. Malwarebytes, a cybersecurity firm, noted a 151% surge in Android threats since the beginning of 2025, with SMS-based malware being a major concern. Smishing, or SMS phishing, has emerged as a potent tool for cybercriminals, who are now leveraging AI-generated texts for faster and more covert attacks.

The rise in Banking Trojans and spyware has outpaced traditional threats like adware. Cyber crooks are employing sophisticated tactics, disguising malicious apps within legitimate channels to deceive users. With many Android devices running outdated operating systems lacking critical security updates, they are vulnerable targets for cyberattacks.

To safeguard Android devices, users are advised to download apps from trusted sources like the Google Play store, scrutinize app permissions, limit notifications to prevent ad intrusion, and utilize up-to-date security software. Staying vigilant and following these security measures are crucial in defending against the escalating threats targeting Android devices.
