Apple has commenced its annual WWDC Developers Conference at its futuristic headquarters in Cupertino. The event unveils upcoming significant software upgrades, with iOS 27 set to launch this Fall, replacing iOS 26 as Apple’s newest operating system.
iOS 27 will introduce enhancements such as customizable Liquid Glass appearance, improved file search capabilities, and a smarter Siri capable of tasks like drafting emails, scheduling events, and assisting in booking concert tickets. Additionally, a feature called CPU Scheduler is expected to enhance the responsiveness of older iPhones.
Apple promises faster performance across all devices, with iPhone and iPad apps launching up to 30% quicker, photos loading up to 70% faster after capture, and AirDrop transfers up to 80% speedier.
A notable addition is a new suite of parental control features aimed at managing children’s device usage. Features like “Ask to Browse,” “Time Allowances,” and new Screen Time settings aim to simplify content management and reduce parental anxiety when handing over devices to children.
Apple’s Vice President of Health and Fitness, Sumbul Desai, M.D., emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering users while ensuring safety. The company plans to introduce updates to establish age-based protections and promote healthy digital habits within families.
While Apple is still finalizing the full list of changes, it has confirmed that all iPhones running iOS 26 will be eligible for the iOS 27 update. The compatible devices include a range from iPhone 11 to iPhone SE (3rd generation).
