Apple’s AirTag is a must-have for those prone to misplacing keys. These small trackers, introduced in 2021, have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. AirTags are versatile, fitting easily onto keys, in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
Upon nearing the tag, your iPhone provides precise on-screen directions, and the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The latest AirTag iteration boasts an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, offering a significantly extended range.
Apple claims this upgrade improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, facilitating locating lost items from greater distances. Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrist.
The new AirTag comes with a redesigned internal speaker, producing sounds 50% louder than its predecessor, making it ideal for finding it in hard-to-reach spots. AirTags leverage Apple’s vast Find My network, which utilizes nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously to the owner. The system prioritizes privacy, with AirTags not storing location history and all communication with the Find My network being encrypted end-to-end.
Additionally, the new AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties, such as airlines. Over 50 airlines have partnered with Apple to support this feature.
The new AirTag is now available for order on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, making it more affordable than the original launch price of £35.
