Three individuals have been taken into custody following the disturbing discovery of a group of 29 deceased dogs in a backyard, alongside 24 malnourished and weak dogs found wandering freely. The arrests of Curtis Dewayne Haralson, Patricia Ann Sims, and Tiffany Ann Sims came after law enforcement responded to a concerned neighbor’s call regarding the animals. The surviving dogs were removed from the property by the authorities.
Law enforcement officials reported that they located the deceased dogs, ranging from puppies to adults, in plastic bags piled in the backyard of the residence. Additionally, around 24 emaciated dogs were found inside the house. Although no charges have been filed against the trio yet, the sheriff’s office indicated that all three individuals are likely to face felony charges following the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident in Alabama, a couple, Marchelle Pertilla and Eugene Medrano, were arrested after their 14-year-old daughter was discovered living in unsanitary conditions in a caravan with seven dogs and one deceased dog. Pertilla faces charges of child abuse and multiple counts of second-degree dog cruelty, while Medrano is charged with dog cruelty offenses. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office detailed the appalling conditions inside the caravan, including filth, insects, and a deceased dog in a closet.
The investigation revealed that the teenager was left alone in squalor while her parents were living in another state, Florida. Authorities learned that the young girl preferred to remain with her service animals, which led to her being left unattended. The parents were apprehended after visiting the daughter in the hospital. Sheriff Paul Burch expressed the need to uncover why the girl was left alone and if any attempts were made to alert law enforcement.
