A young woman tragically lost her life just weeks after her wedding, sparking global interest, according to local police sergeant Ronald McInnis. Maria Pantazopoulos, 30, drowned while wearing her bridal gown during a photo shoot known as “trash the dress,” a trend where brides purposely damage their wedding dresses for symbolic reasons. Photographer Louis Pagakis suggested capturing the images near a waterfall in Montreal, where Mrs. Pantazopoulos’s heavy gown caused her to sink underwater. Despite efforts to rescue her, she could not be saved.
Following the incident, Mrs. Pantazopoulos’s family emphasized that she would not have willingly put herself in danger and called for improved safety measures at such locations. In a similar incident in 2015, a bride named Amy Zuno found herself struggling in water after leaping from a boat in her wedding dress, drawing attention to the risks associated with such photo shoots. Despite the scare, Mrs. Zuno later expressed no regrets about the experience.
