BT has introduced a new method to access the internet that goes beyond mere connectivity. The company’s latest offering, the Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router, is set to launch in UK households soon, boasting enhanced connectivity and added security features.

The router comes equipped with technology that can automatically identify risky websites, providing users with warnings to prevent malware or other online threats. Additionally, it has the capability to detect potential hacking attempts on smart home devices, such as internet-connected cameras, and block suspicious activities proactively.

Users can keep track of identified threats using the Hub Threat Protect feature in the MyBT app, empowering households to enhance their online security and safeguard against potential cyberattacks.

In addition to security enhancements, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance. Supporting Complete Wi-Fi Plus, it helps extend signal coverage throughout homes, eliminating dead zones in weaker areas.

While the Smart Hub 3 has a sleek and minimalist design with a small BT logo at its center, an important detail to note is its support for Wi-Fi 6 rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard featured in some competitor devices, like EE routers.

Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability. However, as many current devices do not yet support Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6 remains more than sufficient for most households, representing a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.

For those interested in acquiring the new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with select existing users also eligible for an upgrade.

Regarding the distinction between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6 enhances wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 extends these improvements with wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it particularly beneficial for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home configurations.

For most users today, Wi-Fi 6 remains an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 presents a more future-proof solution.
