Colombia has come under scrutiny by President Gustavo Petro for potential threats from US President Donald Trump. Petro, known for his criticism of Trump, expressed readiness to defend his country with force if necessary against American aggression. Speculation surrounds Trump’s next target in his America-first agenda, with references made to Operation Absolute Resolve and hinted military actions against Greenland, Iran, Cuba, and Mexico.

Former White House security advisor Stephen Donehoo highlighted Colombia as a likely target due to its significant cocaine production. Trump’s anti-drug measures have put Colombia in a vulnerable position for potential military action aimed at drug trafficking and cocaine production facilities.

Despite tensions escalating, Donehoo suggested a more targeted approach in Colombia compared to Venezuela, foreseeing potential strikes on drug-related infrastructure. Trump’s disdain for President Petro was evident as he hinted at possible operations in Colombia, emphasizing his disapproval of Petro’s leadership by accusing him of involvement in cocaine trafficking to the US.

Petro, in response to the threats, reiterated his commitment to defending Colombia, warning of a military response to any violent intervention akin to recent events in Venezuela. The strained relationship between the two nations was further fueled by Petro’s previous likening of Trump to a cartoon character, leading to Petro’s decision to skip a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.

In a lighthearted remark about visa issues, Petro humorously mentioned missing the opportunity to see “Donald Duck” again, indicating his nonchalant attitude towards the political tensions between Colombia and the US.
