Phil Taylor, a renowned darts figure, expressed surprise upon learning about Luke Littler’s minimal practice regimen in preparation for defending his £1m World Darts Championships title. Littler aims to join the elite group of individuals who have successfully retained the prestigious Sid Waddell Trophy, with the highly anticipated darts event commencing on Thursday evening. The young 18-year-old from Warrington plans to enter the tournament with intentionally limited practice, a decision that has astonished the 16-time world champion, Taylor.

During an interview on SunSport’s Flight Club, Taylor remarked on Littler’s preparation, stating his belief that if Littler advances past the initial round, his performance will soar. Taylor emphasized the importance of confidence and a winning mindset, recounting an incident in Finland where Littler refrained from practicing, yet excelled on stage with impressive results.

Throughout his extensive 31-year professional darts career, Taylor stressed the mental aspect of the sport as a significant challenge for players competing at Ally Pally. He highlighted the necessity of mental preparation and proper rest, cautioning against over-practicing, especially with the heightened stakes of the £1m prize this year. Taylor advised players to find the right balance in their practice routine to ensure peak performance over the three-week championship period.
