A woman made the difficult decision to amputate her left leg after being viciously attacked by her own pet dog, causing severe injury. Amanda Mears, 42, had to intervene in a fight between her two dogs when Dennis, a mix of American Pitbull and American Staffordshire terrier, bit and held onto her leg tightly.
In a harrowing struggle, Amanda had to use her other leg to free herself from the dog’s grip and then called emergency services. At the hospital, doctors informed her that her leg was severely damaged and gave her the choice between multiple surgeries to save it or immediate amputation.
Realizing the extent of the damage, Amanda chose amputation for a quicker recovery and also decided to euthanize her dog to ensure her son’s safety. Amanda described the incident as unexpected, mentioning how she had never seen aggression from her dog before the attack.
Amanda, a dog enthusiast from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with four dogs, usually had peaceful interactions among her pets. However, a recent altercation between Dennis and Ralphie, another dog under her care, led to the unfortunate attack.
After the incident, Amanda underwent emergency surgery and opted for amputation due to the severity of her injuries. Despite initial challenges, Amanda is now recovering at home with support from her family and friends.
To cover her medical expenses, Amanda has initiated a GoFundMe page. The decision to euthanize her dog was tough but necessary for the safety of her family.
