After collaborating with Canadian authorities, Amsterdam police have conclusively determined that Lucky and Mr. Kenny are not the same individual. The investigation has revealed new leads, with at least nine names under scrutiny for potential connections to Lucky.

In a perplexing turn of events, a man known as “Lucky” who collapsed on the streets of Amsterdam three years ago is now being investigated as a possible match to a long-missing Canadian. Both Dutch and Canadian authorities are exploring this intriguing possibility.

The individual, referred to as “Lucky” by Amsterdam police, suffered a medical episode on May 10, 2023, believed to be a stroke or brain hemorrhage, resulting in a condition called aphasia, impairing his language abilities.

Despite efforts to identify him, Lucky had no official identification, used various aliases, and left little trace in official records or digital platforms. The investigation took a new direction when a cold case unit, after a public appeal, received multiple tips hinting at a Canadian connection.

The man remarkably resembles John Russell Kenny, who disappeared from Vancouver over three decades ago. Kenny, now 67, faced mental health challenges and had a transient lifestyle, last in contact with his family in 1993.

There are striking similarities between Lucky and Kenny, including their use of multiple nicknames and a potential Canadian accent in their English speech. Vancouver police, in collaboration with Dutch authorities and Interpol, are actively pursuing leads to confirm if Lucky is indeed Kenny.

While DNA testing could provide a definitive answer, it requires a family member’s involvement due to the non-criminal nature of the investigation. With cautious optimism, investigators are following six promising leads but urge against premature conclusions to avoid raising false hopes for families.

Currently residing in an Amsterdam care center, Lucky struggles to communicate effectively, with limited English vocabulary. Before his medical incident, he was connected to a Buddhist community and possibly had ties to Nepal. Former Dutch detectives are spearheading the identification efforts for this enigmatic individual.

The hope remains to reunite Lucky with any potential family members to bring some light into his solitary existence.
