The Electoral Commission has confirmed that they will not be investigating Nigel Farage’s spending during the general election. This decision comes after Labour raised concerns about potential overspending by the Reform UK leader in his constituency, suggesting a violation of electoral laws.

Allegations were made that Mr. Farage’s campaign inaccurately reported election expenses during his Clacton MP bid in the 2024 General Election. Despite facing accusations of not declaring spending on various items such as leaflets, banners, utility bills, and office refurbishment, which could have exceeded the £20,660 limit in the Essex constituency, the Electoral Commission found no grounds to pursue further action.

Essex Police had initially considered investigating the reported misreported expenditure by a political party but later determined that the time limit for such investigations had lapsed. In a letter to Reform UK, the Electoral Commission stated that no credible evidence of potential electoral law offenses was found, leading to the closure of the inquiry.

Peter Harris, the election agent for Mr. Farage in Clacton, dismissed the complaints as politically motivated and firmly denied any wrongdoing in election spending. Reform UK also refuted the allegations, labeling Richard Everett, a former Reform councillor, as a disgruntled individual no longer associated with the party.

The investigation’s conclusion has put an end to the dispute surrounding Mr. Farage’s campaign finances during the general election, with no further action to be taken by the Electoral Commission.
