Washing your face with hot water during a shower might be causing your skin to age faster, according to an expert. Dr. Annette Phillips from Forever Facial Aesthetics warns that the high water temperature can strip the skin’s protective barrier, leading to dryness, tightness, and accentuated fine lines.

In addition to the water temperature, rushed habits in the shower can also harm the skin. Using body wash on the face or allowing hair products to run onto the facial skin can result in dryness, sensitivity, and a rough texture, making the skin appear older than it is.

Dr. Phillips advises against washing your face in hot water and using shower products on your face. Instead, she recommends cleansing your face at the sink with lukewarm water and a gentle facial cleanser to avoid skin tightness. Moisturizing immediately after cleansing can help retain hydration, keeping the skin smooth and plump.

If your skin is feeling dry or sensitive, Dr. Phillips suggests sticking to your current skincare routine and giving your skin time to recover. Making these simple changes can lead to noticeable improvements in skin texture and appearance within a week, especially for those experiencing eczema-like flare-ups.
