A heartless individual who pretended to be a traffic lawyer on social media has been sentenced to prison after causing the death of an elderly woman in a tragic car accident.
Leigh Sutherland was driving above the speed limit in an old Ford Mondeo with faulty brakes when the collision occurred on Condorrat Ring Road in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The crash involved a Peugeot 108 driven by Margaret Allan, resulting in the tragic death of the 77-year-old woman who succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital. Another passenger was also injured in the incident.
Despite the evidence against him, Sutherland callously attempted to shift the blame to the victim at the scene, displaying a lack of remorse. Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, he was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and subsequently sentenced to nine years in prison along with a 13-year driving ban.
Known for his presence on TikTok, where he posed as a defense lawyer and created peculiar content, Sutherland’s true nature was exposed through his reckless actions on the road. Witnesses reported that Sutherland was driving over the speed limit at the time of the crash, with his car’s braking system found to be malfunctioning during the investigation.
Prosecutor Adrian Stalker emphasized the gravity of Sutherland’s actions, describing his driving as not merely a lapse in judgment but a deliberate disregard for safety. Sutherland, originally from Cumbernauld but residing in Newcastle, was remanded in custody awaiting sentencing after being out on bail during the trial.
The tragic loss of Margaret Allan serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving, and Sutherland’s severe sentence reflects the seriousness of his actions.
