The parents of a young man who tragically passed away shortly before the Christmas season shared their profound sorrow after his body was discovered in the water.
Luke Haffield lost his life after entering the River Avon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Following search efforts, his body was found on December 27. The 20-year-old’s family expressed that he had touched many lives with his kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In a statement conveyed through the police, the family expressed their shock and devastation over the loss of their beloved son and brother in such a heartbreaking incident.
Describing him as a compassionate individual, the family stated that his untimely passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
“He was an exceptional young man who had embarked on an Engineering apprenticeship with Moog. An avid sports enthusiast, he engaged in football, hockey, and cricket in his earlier years, and more recently found enjoyment in golf, darts, and padel,” the family shared.
They concluded by saying, “He will forever remain our cherished ‘Lukey.’ Rest peacefully, our dear boy. You will always be remembered.”
Gloucestershire Police also released a statement acknowledging the family’s gratitude towards all emergency services involved in the search and recovery process, including Gloucestershire Police, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and West Mercia Police dog handlers.
