A father tragically lost his life in a car accident, prompting his family to share heartfelt memories of him. Stephen Jones, aged 33, sustained severe injuries in a collision on Christmas Eve and passed away on January 3. His partner, a 34-year-old woman, is in a stable but serious condition in the hospital. Their eight-year-old son sustained minor injuries and is now under the care of extended family members.

In a touching tribute, Stephen’s family remembered him as a devoted son, brother, partner, uncle, and above all, a loving father. They emphasized that his role as a dad held immense significance to him. Stephen was also recognized as a compassionate friend and a dedicated Everton supporter who had a strong commitment to helping others. His passion for coaching youth football had a positive impact on numerous lives.

The family expressed profound sadness over Stephen’s passing, acknowledging that his absence would be deeply felt by many. They emphasized that he would be dearly missed but forever cherished in their hearts.

Following the incident, a 32-year-old man from Liverpool was apprehended at the crash site. Authorities disclosed that the individual has been released on bail with specific conditions and is under investigation for offenses including causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy, leading the Serious Collision Investigation unit, extended condolences to Stephen’s family and assured ongoing support during the inquiry to provide them with closure. He mentioned that the community was devastated by Stephen’s loss, highlighting his significant contributions to children’s football coaching.

The detective emphasized the importance of eyewitness testimonies and dashcam footage in the investigation. He urged anyone who was in the vicinity of the M57 or the East Lancashire Road around 8:30 pm on Christmas Eve to come forward with any relevant information. He also expressed gratitude to the individuals who stopped at the scene to offer assistance.
