A tragic incident occurred at a popular tourist spot in Thailand as a young man, Alexis Vergos, lost his life while attempting to take selfies with his girlfriend. The 22-year-old hiker from France slipped on wet rocks near Na Muang 2 Waterfall on Koh Samui island and fell to his death. Despite his girlfriend’s quick call to emergency services, Alexis could not be rescued from the waterfall’s waters. His body was later found by rescue volunteers wedged between rocks.

According to Police Major Chayut Tulachotikul, the tourist had arrived in Koh Samui the day before the accident. His girlfriend witnessed the fatal fall and immediately contacted the authorities, who confirmed his tragic demise at the scene. Distressing footage showed paramedics retrieving Alexis’ body from a crevice near the swift stream, with a post-mortem examination attributing his death to a head injury.

Local authorities expressed their efforts to enhance safety measures at the waterfall site, including the installation of more warning signs in Thai and English, and potential plans for fences or barriers in hazardous areas to prevent similar incidents. Collaboration with the French Consulate was initiated to support Alexis’ partner and family during this difficult time.

Na Muang 2 Waterfall, known for its beauty, has also been a site of previous fatal accidents involving tourists, highlighting the importance of adhering to safety precautions in such environments. Tragic incidents of falls and deaths have occurred in the past, prompting authorities to reevaluate and strengthen safety protocols to protect visitors from harm.
