Homes in Devon are facing a cold spell as a gas outage, caused by damage to a pipe by a third party, has left residents without heating for several days. The affected areas include Salcombe, Kingsbridge, and Malborough, where temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight.

The gas disruption coincides with an amber cold-health alert issued for Devon and other regions in England due to the chilly weather conditions. Decon County Council has advised caution to residents regarding icy paths and roads.

Wales and West Utilities (WWU), the gas operator, is currently assessing the extent of the impact on properties. They urge those aware of vulnerable individuals in affected homes to check on their well-being during the outage.

Repair efforts are underway, with WWU warning residents to expect interruptions in gas supplies for a few days. The company is providing support to customers on the Priority Services Register by offering alternative cooking and heating facilities. They are also coordinating with local authorities to provide additional assistance to affected residents.

Businesses in the area have been forced to close due to the gas issue, with the Maha-Bharat curry house expressing regret for any inconvenience caused. The restaurant has refunded online orders and urged customers to reach out with any concerns.

As repair work progresses, WWU advises affected individuals to stay in touch with updates on the situation.
