Halfords has decided to shut down all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this year. The automotive retailer aims to provide its staff nationwide with a well-deserved break to spend quality time with their families and friends. While Halfords will be closed on Christmas Day as well, it will resume normal operations on all other days during the festive period.

Henry Birch, the Chief Executive Officer of Halfords, expressed gratitude towards the hard work of the staff throughout the year, emphasizing the importance of allowing them to recharge and enjoy personal time. Birch highlighted that the decision to close stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day serves as a gesture of appreciation and ensures that the teams return refreshed for the upcoming year.

Following an increase in sales and profits over the last six months, Halfords reported a 9% growth in cycling business sales for the half-year ending on September 26. This positive performance contributed to a 3.3% rise in total revenues to £893.3 million. Additionally, the group observed a 1.1% increase in like-for-like motoring revenues and a 4.3% growth in its autocentres business.

Apart from Halfords, Home Bargains has also chosen to keep its stores closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, continuing a tradition upheld in recent years. The retailer expressed appreciation for its employees’ hard work and encouraged them to relax and enjoy the holiday season with their loved ones. Similarly, Aldi will follow suit by closing its stores on December 26, allowing its staff to unwind and celebrate Christmas with their families.

To enhance the festive experience for customers, Aldi will extend its operating hours leading up to Christmas, ensuring that shoppers can stock up for the holiday. Rebecca Heley, the Communications Director at Aldi UK, emphasized the significance of providing colleagues with the opportunity to enjoy the festive period, acknowledging their dedication in delivering exceptional service to customers.
