Professional golfer Tyrrell Hatton shared that he surpassed Rory McIlroy in scoring at the Dubai Desert Classic after indulging in wine and Guinness during the Christmas season. Hatton humorously mentioned feeling as sluggish as the Titanic during his initial round in January to defend his title.

Despite previously advising his teammate to pay fines for playing on another tour, Hatton and McIlroy instead reminisced about the fine wines they enjoyed over the holidays. Hatton jokingly recounted shocking McIlroy with his weight gain at the start of the year.

Having gained about a stone in weight, Hatton admitted to a fun-filled December with minimal exercise but plenty of drinking, including enjoying Guinness at home. Now focusing on shedding some weight, he humorously referred to his current fitness efforts as “damp January.”

Known for his love of a drink, Hatton faced the challenge of physical conditioning as he kicked off his competitive season. Despite feeling rusty, he managed to score decently in his first round, trailing behind Francesco Molinari.

McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, also in the same playing group as Hatton, refrained from discussing fines related to conflicting golf results. Meanwhile, Poland’s Adrian Meronk echoed dissatisfaction with fines imposed on players for participating in other tournaments, advocating for a fair resolution between the involved tours.
