A prominent al-Qaeda operative was eliminated in US airstrikes in Syria following an ISIS assault that resulted in the deaths of three American individuals. Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, believed to be a key figure in the heinous attack, was identified as a seasoned terrorist leader orchestrating anti-US activities, according to the Pentagon.
Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of US Central Command, emphasized the US government’s commitment to pursuing terrorists targeting American citizens and military personnel. The successful strike on January 16, carried out by US Central Command in the Middle East, led to the demise of Al-Jasim, who had direct ties to the ISIS assailant responsible for the fatal incident in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13.
The operation, named Hawkeye Strike, involved extensive strikes on over 100 ISIS targets using more than 200 precise munitions. Furthermore, US and allied forces have apprehended over 300 ISIS suspects and eliminated more than 20 terrorists in Syria over the past year, bolstering national and regional security.
The Trump administration also executed military operations on December 19 in Syria to eradicate Islamic State combatants and weapon stockpiles. President Trump warned aggressors against targeting the US, underscoring a strong retaliatory stance.
Following the significant strike on 70 locations in central Syria housing ISIS infrastructure, further military actions are anticipated, as stated by a US official who spoke anonymously. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the sentiment of unwavering defense against threats to the American populace under President Trump’s leadership.
Despite the recent military activities in Syria, the Trump administration aims to refocus efforts in the Western Hemisphere, including operations in Venezuela and the Caribbean. The US has redirected substantial resources away from the Middle East to advance these objectives, with its cutting-edge aircraft carrier stationed in South American waters since November, signaling a strategic shift in global operations.
