Elected as the Labour Deputy Leader was not something I had foreseen as I entered the year 2025. This unexpected honor comes with a significant responsibility to uphold the values and principles of the Labour Party during these critical times.

The support from Labour Party members stems from their desire for a Deputy Leader who can enhance the party’s performance, articulate its core beliefs, and stand firmly on the side of the people. It is crucial for me to work as an integral part of a unified team rather than engaging in divisive actions.

The current societal challenges highlight the urgent need for change. Ordinary citizens have faced increasing difficulties over the past decade, with jobs no longer ensuring a decent standard of living, affordable housing becoming scarce, and rapid transformations in the workforce. The clamor for political responsiveness and understanding is evident nationwide.

To demonstrate that mainstream politics can bring about tangible improvements, we must diligently engage with the public, avoid internal conflicts, and stay focused on our mission. Efforts such as the recent Budget showcase Labour’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged families through targeted measures like a mansion tax, a gambling levy, and fairer income-based taxes.

Despite the distractions and criticisms, it is essential to communicate our achievements clearly and effectively. As we approach early 2026 with significant Labour policies being implemented, including enhanced sick pay, wage increases for low-income earners, and initiatives for housing and public services, our dedication to championing these initiatives must remain unwavering.

The upcoming elections demand unity and support for Keir Starmer to prevent giving an advantage to opposing parties like Reform. Solidarity within the Labour Party is crucial to prioritizing the nation’s interests, defeating divisive politics, and ensuring responsible governance across Britain.
