After discussions with his family, Chen expressed his decision to step down from his role as a Member of Parliament.
Prior to his political career, Chen served as the chair of the Toronto District School Board. Among those departing, former Liberal cabinet minister Steven Guilbeault, Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall, and Conservative MP Larry Brock are notable figures. Guilbeault and Wagantall are set to vacate their seats at the end of the month, while Brock will step down in mid-September to pursue a role at the Brantford Crown attorney’s office. Additionally, NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice plans to resign from his Montreal seat by the end of summer to contest provincially for Québec Solidaire in October.
