Lindsey Vonn recently discussed the challenging road to recovery she faces after a serious crash at the Winter Olympics. Despite sustaining an ACL injury shortly before the competition, Vonn managed to compete in downhill skiing in Italy but suffered a severe fall that led to her being airlifted to the hospital.
Following the incident, Vonn underwent multiple surgeries and dealt with compartment syndrome and a broken ankle, narrowly avoiding the possibility of amputation. She credits Dr. Tom Hackett with saving her leg by performing a procedure to relieve pressure and improve circulation.
At 41 years old, Vonn is now confronted with not only physical injuries but also the mental rehabilitation process, which she acknowledges will be a significant challenge. In a recent social media post, she reflected on the mental battle that lies ahead, emphasizing the importance of resilience and learning from past injuries.
After an extended hospital stay in the United States due to complications from surgeries, Vonn shared that she had to receive a blood transfusion to address low hemoglobin levels. Currently in a wheelchair due to her injuries, Vonn is focused on starting her rehabilitation journey step by step, staying optimistic about her recovery.
