A man with three children traveled 285 miles for a driving test, only to have it canceled due to a wet seat. Jacob Caroll, 27, had been struggling to find a test slot near his home and eventually expanded his search to Scarborough, a 300-mile journey from Chichester. Despite having the car professionally cleaned before the test, a few raindrops supposedly fell on the passenger seat, leading the examiner to refuse to proceed. Jacob expressed frustration at the cancellation, noting that the next available test date is in April, just before his theory test expires.
Reflecting on the incident, Jacob highlighted feeling anxious about rescheduling the test. He described the examiner’s refusal to sit on the seat as unjust, emphasizing that the seat was only slightly damp and professionally cleaned. His mother-in-law, Vicky Bagshaw, shared her disbelief at the situation, highlighting the impact on the family, especially considering Jacob’s role in alleviating driving responsibilities within the household.
DVSA, the driving test authority, declined to comment on specific cases but encouraged learners who feel mistreated to report such incidents promptly. The unexpected cancellation left Jacob and his family disappointed, having invested time, money, and effort into the trip and preparation for the test.
